Early Access To Press Releases

Early Access To Press Releases

Have you ever been caught “off guard” when reporters call asking for reactions to a new Hubble discovery that you haven’t yet heard about?

Would it be valuable to have early access (i.e., before the embargo lifts) to Hubble press releases?

In cooperation with our News department, we can help with advance access to Hubble press releases. The key is this: You must agree to honor the embargo.

If you work in a museum or planetarium, serve as an astronomy news spokesperson for your local media, and are willing to honor our press embargo dates, you are welcome to apply. Send a letter typed on your institution’s letterhead to the address below. No e-mail, please. Besides your expression of interest, this letter must include:

  • A short explanation about how early access to Hubble news benefits your institution/mission
  • Your name and job title
  • Complete mailing address
  • Telephone number and e-mail address
  • Supervisor’s name, title, and telephone/e-mail address.

You’ll receive a letter of agreement to sign and return. Just one contact person per organization, please. Address your request to:

Manager, Informal Science
Space Telescope Science Institute
Office of Public Outreach
3700 San Martin Drive
Baltimore, MD 21218

If you don’t qualify for early access, you can still receive STScI press releases electronically (on their official release dates). Information about the News Mailing List can be found at the HubbleSite Newscenter.
